Project Overview
B&M, one of the UK’s leading retailers, needed a robust fire safety solution for their Manchester retail facility. The expansive, open-plan environment required certified fire curtain systems to comply with fire safety regulations while ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.
Adexon was chosen to deliver a bespoke, end-to-end solution tailored to these specific requirements.
Challenge
The primary challenge was achieving fire compartmentalisation for the forty-meter-wide facility, without disrupting the facility’s flow for vehicles, staff, and inventory. The open-plan layout posed significant fire risks, necessitating solutions capable of containing both smoke and flames while fully adhering to harmonised EN standards.
The Solution
Following an initial site survey, we designed, manufactured, and installed four identical FC120E fire curtain systems:
- Dimensions: 1000mmW x 4250mmH.
- Performance: 120 minutes of fire integrity, providing critical fire compartmentalisation.
- Design: Powder-coated finish in RAL 9005 Ultramarine Blue for seamless integration into the building’s aesthetic.
- Compliance: Certified to BS EN 16034:2014 to meet fire safety regulations.
Installation
Our full turnkey solution ensured the project was completed on schedule while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
- Site Survey: Assessed installation feasibility and identified technical requirements.
- Manufacturing: Custom-built fire curtain systems tailored to the site’s specific dimensions and needs.
- Installation: Certified engineers installed the systems, fixing the systems to a pre-built steel framework.
- Commissioning: Each system was tested to verify full functionality and compliance before final handover.
Results
The installed systems provide effective compartmentalisation for the retail space, mitigating fire risks while maintaining operational efficiency. With our industry-leading 10-year product warranty, B&M can confidently rely on their fire curtain systems to perform when it matters most.
